Symbolism in the armorial bearings: The design of the arms attempted to capture the elements of the physical aspect of the historical Western fighting systems and the intellectual component of the same. The arms depicts a halberd and poleaxe crossed surmounted by a broadsword, a classical symbol of the historical fighting arts. These weapons are situated between a pair of open books, which represents the intellectual and academic pursuits of this project. Issuing from the top of the helm, are a pair of armoured arms grasping a spear from which a standard flies bearing the colours of the arms.
